AnchoragesThis page has details on anchorages that may not be in the Waterway Guide. They will have helpful comments by members and navigation information. They are linked from the Cruising Resources page listings. Western ShoreMobjack Bay - Severn River Red #2If you are heading up or down the bay and want a quick place to spend the night, anchor in the beginning of the Severn river across from Red “2”. North or south wind. For a nice anchorage keep going into the SW branch of the Severn and anchor.
Rappahannock River - Corrotoman - Sandy PointGo into the Eastern branch and anchor just past Sandy Point. There are also some spots up the western branch but we like Sandy point. Rappahannock - Anti-Poison Creek, Indian River - Henry's Creek
Great Wicomoco - Mill CreekMill creek As you approach the Great Wicomico River, (Ingram Bay), turn south west to Mill Creek, (About where you would turn of North into Reedville). Wind along the channel markers. There is a large anchorage area to the south just past G “5”. There are sometimes many boats here. You can go further up the creek and find plenty of other spots to anchor. Jacey Vineyards is a short dinghy ride. They are open Thursday – Sunday for wine tasting. They have dinghy docks with the vineyard name on them. It is a two block walk to the vineyard. The docks are further up Mill creek and up a branch on the right. Great Wicomoco - Horn Harbor Green #11If you go up the Great Wicomico River, you can anchor across from Horn Harbor. Past Green “11”. They have a small marina where you might be able to tie up but you can anchor across the river and dinghy in for lunch / dinner. Good food. West River - Rhode RiverJust as you head into the West River take a right and go up into the Rhode River. There is a bay on the left just past Green “3” to anchor if you just want to stop for the night and get out the next day. Keep going past Green “7” turn left and there is a nice anchorage. Most of the land to the west is nature preserve. Magothy River - Dobbin's Island & Magothy NarrowsMD western shore north of the Bay Bridge: Magothy River - anchor behind Dobbins Island. Or continue through Magothy Narrows and anchor across from the horse farm. Very protected in a storm. Eastern ShoreOnancockThere is a nice spot to anchor just before you get to Onancock if you do not want to tie up or they are full. |
