Weekly Racing & Regattas

The Broad Bay Sailing Association is very active in PHRF and handicap racing in Hampton Roads. Sailors can enjoy weekly around-the-buoys racing on Wednesday nights at Little Creek and Thursday nights on Willoughby Bay. These races go from mid-April to late September. There are also One-Design and Hobie Fleet races on a regular basis. In addition to weekly racing and administering the Southern Bay Distance Racing Series (SBDRS) , BBSA sponsors four weekend regattas:

Racing Rules

All BBSA races are managed according to the US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024.  To access these rules, you must be a member of US Sailing and you can find information about their rules app at:  US Sailing RRS.

You can also find the World Sailing Organization's rules for free at:  WSO RRS or check out our training site for Red Baron's RRS training notes.

    If you want to spend some time on the water and help BBSA run the annual Cape Henry Cup, we are looking for volunteers to help with Race Committee.  

    The Cape Henry Cup is on Saturday, May 15, 2021.  No experience required.  If you are interested, please contact Bob Magoon at 757.876.6067
