Explaining the PHRF of the Chesapeake
Rating System Lecture - by Alan Bomar- 0930, 13 January 2024
This week's PMU lecture should be of interest to any regular racer and to any cruiser who might be mystified by the process of getting their boat rated by the primary racing rating system in use in Chesapeake Bay. The shrouds of mystery will be uncovered when our own Alan Bomar, a superb Skipper in his own right who also happens to be one of the PHRF of the Chesapeake's Handicappers for the lower Bay provides this week's lecture.
Alan will explain in detail the process to obtain a rating for your boat (both Racing and Cruising Rating) and all of the factors that go into it. For racers, if you are not happy with your rating (is anyone happy with their rating?) Alan will discuss the means to correct any problems with it. He will also discuss the new Cruising rating. This will be an excellent lecture and I hope we have a good crowd to provide Alan with alot of questions! As always, there will be hot coffee on hand so come down to the clubhouse and join us!
If you can't make it to the clubhouse, the lecture will be online using our Zoom link (for future reference, it should be the same link for the remainder of the PMU semester). To join, click on the link below:
