Calling all BBSA Beer-Can & One-Design Racers!
29 October (6-8:30 pm) Training & “Hot Wash”
Bold Mariner Brewing, Ocean View

As our 2024 Beer-Can and One-Deign season wraps up, while it is “fresh” in our minds…BBSA (Little Creek Racers, Willoughby Racers an One-Design Fleets) will hold a “training” on Tuesday, 29 October - at Bold Mariner Brewing, Ocean View (6pm - 8:30pm).

This will be a “first time” event (that any current BBSA Beer-Can or one-design racers can recall) - where we will give all comers - Captains and crews of BBSA Beer-Can and one-design fleet racers an opportunity for DIRECT feedback to our coordinators, organizers, race PROs and BBSA membership on “the good, the bad, the ugly” of the 2024 Beer-Can and One-Design season.

What worked, what didn’t, what needs to be improved - and how?

What should we ABSOLUTELY not change?

What needs tweaking?

What needs MAJOR changes & improvements?

The plan: The Racing Captain, One-Design Captain, LCR and WR Coordinators will each identify their top lessons learned for 2024. Additional Lessons Learned as provided by membership (see below) will be reviewed by Racing Captain, LCR and WR Coordinators and One-Design Captain. Those Lessons Learned/recommendations that can be resolved/have action taken prior to the 29 October meeting will be reported on. Those recommendations requiring additional review/discussion will either be included in the 29 October meeting discussion (panel format) or, if needed, may require stand-up of separate TBD ad-hoc “working group(s)” to identify actions/solutions.

Ideally, the “no-brainers” can be resolved quickly, reported on, and we can spend time on 29 October talking thru the more “difficult” recommendations.

In an attempt to get as much input as we can - we would like to hear from Captains & Crew. Tell us your “top 2 or 3”, complaints, atta-boys, improvements needed.

Ideas/Food for thought:

- Race Committee preparedness & training

- Where do we need more training in Racing Rules? Mark Roundings, Starts, Finishes, Overtaking & “Proper Course” ?

- Weather. Can/should we improve RC training or LCR/WR Sailing Instructions (SI) /policy here?

- Other SI improvements needed - areas requiring clarification?

- Communications - before and after races. what works best, or do we need more/better. Facebook, Email, Text chain, VHF, telephone tree.

- Protest procedures

-- immediately after race completes, comms, forms

— protest hearings

Please provide your inputs to me (Larry Baun) NO LATER than end of day Friday, 18 October - and cc: via email to:
