"All Hands on Deck" - Sign Up Now!
BBSA/NYCC Joint Training Event
Tuesday, 3 December 2024 (6-9pm)
Where: Norfolk Yacht & Country Club (NYCC) and via Zoom
Will Sofrin, author of Amazon Bestseller
"All Hands on Deck - A Modern-Day High Seas Adventure to the Far Side of the World" will present the true story of the adventures (2001-2002) of the ROSE, a replica of a late 18th / early 19th century British Navy frigate (BTW - a sister ship of the ill-fated replica ship BOUNTY, lost off the Outer Banks in Hurricane Sandy (2012)).
ROSE is a full-size replica of HMS SURPRISE. The ROSE was used in filming the movie "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" starring Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany. The book covers the preparations and delivery of the movie prop ROSE from Newport, RI to San Diego, CA in late 2001/early 2002. Adventure on the high seas, understanding how a crew of mostly complete strangers MUST and DO come together under extreme stress, and much sailing euphoria (at least the 10% "sheer terror" part) is woven thru the book. o
Zoom or In-Person
Our speaker, who lives in California, will join us via Zoom, but you can join your fellow sailors in person at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club or join us via Zoom as well. For in-person attendees, the event will include the option for NYCC’s famous “slider bar” meal & a cash bar. Expect meal cost = $24/person.

Registration and payment for meals due NLT Thursday, 28 November.
More, More: I've included links to the author's webpage, with a fantastic "trailer" You-Tube clip for the book promo, as well as an interview from Sail-World.com. I've had the pleasure of reading the book. An easy, fast read. IMHO any sailor, especially those who have dreamed of adventure, challenging themselves, and heading out on a journey (tall ship, or any sailing journey) will enjoy it....but even if you don't get a chance to read the book - it will be an enjoyable presentation, for certain.
More: From the book’s press release: "This is a story about human relationships and survival as a crew of thirty men and women are pressed to quickly learn how to sail a replica of an old British warship 6,000 miles to Hollywood. The clock was ticking, tens of millions of dollars were on the line, they came close to sinking, and could have died, all while trying to deliver a movie prop."
